Kangertech tank, which coil fits which model
An old Kangertech tank turns up in a drawer, or has never left its battery, and the question arrives the day the coils run out. Shops list “Kangertech coils” without saying which device they screw into, and the manufacturer’s site no longer shows these models. Yet a Kangertech tank accepts one coil family and one only, and a wrong guess ends with a pack you cannot use.
Kangertech tank coils, the short answer
Four coil families share the brand’s tanks, and none of them screws into a tank designed for another. What matters is the base, the threaded end that fixes the coil in the tank, not the name on the pack.
The T2 has its own long wick coils, fitted at the top. The first generation EVOD and the original Protank share a single coil sold as SOCC. One dual coil serves the Protank 3, the EVOD 2 and the Aerotank, among others. The Subtank family takes OCC and SSOCC coils, while the Toptank and the Subvod take the SSOCC.
Keeping those four families in mind avoids the most common wasted purchase for a Kangertech tank, a pack with the right brand name and the wrong base.
Which generation of Kangertech tank are we talking about
Kangertech’s website no longer lists any of these models, and the Protank name survives there only on a product from another category. The original data sits in the spec sheets the brand published in 2014 and 2015, still readable in web archives, to be cross-checked against retailers.
Three stages stand out. The T2 heats from the top, the EVOD and the Protank move the coil to the base of the tank, and the Subtank, whose sheet dates from November 2014, drops below 1 ohm and adds a deck you build yourself. Each stage kept its own coil base.
The T2 and the EVOD, two ways of heating the liquid
These two entry level tanks look alike, slim and fitted with an eGo thread, but they do not put the coil in the same place, and that decides which spares to buy.
The T2, coil at the top and two long wicks
On the T2 the coil sits in the upper part of the tank, and two long wicks hang from it into the liquid. Retailers describe it as a mouth to lung tank supplied with a 1.8 ohm coil, and offer replacements at 1.8, 2.2 or 2.5 ohm.
Its coils come in packs dedicated to the T2, separate from the other families. To keep the wicks soaked, two retailers advise vaping it flat and leaving it lying down.
The EVOD, the coil moves to the base
The original EVOD kit sheet describes a replaceable bottom heating coil of 1.8 to 2.5 ohm. The EVOD MT version still listed by one retailer ships with a 1.8 ohm single coil, the same SOCC coil as the original Protank according to two shops.
Protank 3, Mini Protank 3 and Aerotank, the dual coil family
This is the largest family in the catalogue. One dual coil, with two heating filaments, serves close to ten tanks.
The Mini Protank 3 sheet states that its 1.2 ohm coil is interchangeable with those of the Protank 3 and the Aerotank. The EVOD Glass uses the same head, and so does the EVOD 2. Retailers complete the list with the EVOD Mega, the T3D, the Aerotank Mini and the Aerotank Mega. The manufacturer quoted 1.2 or 1.8 ohm for the Aerotank coils, whereas retailers that still carry them offer 1.5 or 1.8 ohm.
One trap remains in the series. The Aerotank Turbo ran two dual coils fitted together, each of 1.8 ohm or more according to its sheet. A pack of five therefore covers only two complete changes.
Subtank, Toptank and Subvod, the sub ohm Kangertech tank
The original Subtank sheet offers a standard dual coil from 0.8 ohm, two OCC coils, for Organic Cotton Coil, at 0.5 ohm (15 to 30 W) and 1.2 ohm (12 to 25 W), and an RBA deck to build on. The Subtank Mini and Subtank Plus get a Mini RBA deck, and the Subtank Nano makes do with OCC coils.
The SSOCC, for Stainless Steel Organic Cotton Coil, carries the same idea in a stainless steel body. Two retailers list it as compatible with the Subtank range, the Toptank and the Subvod.
The original sheets quoted 6 ml for the Subtank, 4.5 ml for the Mini and 3 ml for the Nano. Under the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016, administered by the MHRA, tanks sold in the United Kingdom are limited to 2 ml, and nicotine e-liquid to 10 ml bottles at no more than 20 mg per ml, so those figures describe international versions only.
Which coil for which Kangertech tank, the table
Values come from the manufacturer’s sheets, or from retailers where no sheet exists.
| Tank | Coil | Values found |
|---|---|---|
| T2 | T2 long wick coil | 1.8 ohm supplied, spares at 1.8, 2.2 or 2.5 ohm |
| EVOD, EVOD MT, original Protank | SOCC single coil | 1.8 to 2.5 ohm on the EVOD |
| Protank 3, Mini Protank 3, EVOD 2, EVOD Glass, EVOD Mega, T3D, Aerotank (Mini, Mega) | Dual coil | 1.2 to 1.8 ohm depending on the series |
| Aerotank Turbo | Two dual coils together | 1.8 ohm or more each |
| Subtank, Subtank Plus, Subtank Mini, Subtank Nano | OCC or SSOCC, RBA deck except Nano | 0.5 or 1.2 ohm in OCC |
| Toptank Mini, Toptank Nano, Subvod | SSOCC | Check the printed reference |
The family comes before the ohm value. A 0.5 ohm SSOCC will not replace a 1.2 ohm dual coil, nor the reverse.
Which battery for these tanks
The thread decides the battery. The T2, the EVOD MT, the EVOD 2 and the Aerotank Mini screw onto an eGo connector, while the Subtank and the Aerotank Mega use the 510 connector found on current mods. The EVOD 2 sheet lists it as compatible with both.
For the T2 and the EVOD MT, retailers name eGo, Evod and Evod Twist type batteries. In a reply posted under its listing in 2025, one retailer said it no longer had any battery compatible with the T2, even though it still lists the tank.
On the sub ohm side, the sheet gives 15 to 30 W for a 0.5 ohm OCC and 12 to 25 W for a 1.2 ohm OCC, which calls for a mod with adjustable power.
What British shops still list
One British retailer still lists the EVOD tank, EVOD stick batteries of 650 mAh and 1600 mAh, a pack of EVOD SOCC coils and a Protank and EVOD coil pack.
Before buying, compare the base of the old coil with the photo on the listing, a check far more reliable than the model name in a product title.
FAQ
Five questions come up as soon as an older tank from the brand goes back into service.
Do genuine coils fit a copy of a Kangertech tank?
Not necessarily. Two retailers of the dual coil state that genuine parts may not fit copies made by other suppliers. On a tank of doubtful origin, take the old coil along to compare.
Can an Ni200 coil go on any mod?
No. Kangertech’s sheet for the 0.15 ohm Ni200 nickel OCC requires a mod with temperature control. Check the wire named on the box before fitting it.
Why does the T2 taste burnt with some liquids?
Its long wicks need a thin liquid to stay soaked. One retailer advises staying at or below 30 per cent vegetable glycerine, another recommends 70/30 or 80/20 PG/VG blends.
What is the RBA deck supplied with the Subtank for?
It replaces the ready made coil with a base on which you fit your own wire and cotton. On the Subtank Plus, the sheet notes that no change of tube is needed to switch to the Mini RBA deck.
Can the glass tube on an Aerotank be swapped for a steel one?
Yes on the Aerotank Mini, Aerotank 2 and Aerotank Mega, whose sheets list an interchangeable tube in Pyrex glass or stainless steel. Steel copes better with knocks but hides the liquid level, and the guide to vape tanks compares the other tube materials.
Choosing the right coil for your Kangertech tank
The range looks confusing when read by model name, and falls into four families once you look at the coil base. That platform reading holds at other manufacturers too, as the Aspire range and its coils and the Zeus family at GeekVape show.
For a Kangertech tank, one coil family per model and a glance at the base before every purchase are enough to keep an older tank working, and to understand where the coil platforms of today’s hardware come from.
